The leaves on this very hardy deciduous shrub rival the beauty of spring flowers. In the spring new leaves appear in shades of yellow, red and orange. As the small, serrated oval leaves mature, they become an attractive shade of chartreuse green. This plant will also add texture to your garden.

Cesky Gold® Betula x plettkei ‘Golden Treasure’ Can 5,637 can be grown in USDA hardiness zones 2 to 7 in partial to full sun conditions. This dwarf shrub is a good choice for a container garden. It can also be used as a focal point, in mass plantings, as a low hedge, in perennial gardens and mixed shrub borders. This plant produces brown flowers on old wood. Neither the flowers nor the fruit are significant. It’s deer resistant and highly tolerant of urban pollution, even in inner-city environments.

Cesky Gold Betula Care

At maturity, Cesky Gold Betula reaches 2 to 4 feet in height and 1.5 to 3 feet in width in a fan-like shape. This slow-growing multi-stemmed shrub can be pruned but looks best if left to grow in its natural growth pattern. Prune during the summer after leaves have fully matured if desired. Pruning in late winter or early spring may result in the plant bleeding sap.
