Chrysalis™ï¸ Cranberry Butterfly Bush, Buddleia Chrysalis™ï¸ Cranberry, has a profusion of 6” long, deep cranberry-magenta-colored, fragrant flowers. Cranberry Butterfly Bush is a magnet for butterflies and other important pollinators. Bred for its abundance of gorgeous, colorful flowers, this compact variety with strong, graceful, upright stems continually produces vibrant, magenta flowers from spring through late summer. 

This first-year bloomer has a compact, mounded habit, growing up to 28” high and 24” wide. It’s a very low-maintenance shrub. Hardy in USDA Zones 5-9, it has a high drought tolerance and is downy-mildew resistant.  

Chrysalis™ï¸ Cranberry Butterfly Bush Care

Chrysalis Cranberry Butterfly Bush prefers to be planted in sunny locations in moist well-draining soils; it can tolerate occasional drought once established. Chrysalis can be trimmed to shape in early spring when it breaks dormancy. Give it a good, deep soaking once a week, and more often in the hot, dry summer months. 

Fertilize monthly during the growing season to spur continuous blooming. Remove spent flowers. Because of its compact, manageable size, it can be grown in a large container. Prune in late winter or early spring; hard prune back at least 50% of the branches every few years to rejuvenate this shrub.

Chrysalis is lovely in mass plantings as a loosely formed, open hedge for a big colorful wow factor; it also works well as a single specimen in butterfly or cottage-style gardens. Space plants 30” apart to accommodate their mature spread.
