- Use As A Thriller In Containers
Double Coded™ Raspberry Beret Coneflower will provide a long-lasting, bright shot of color for your perennial summer border. The intense raspberry sorbet flowers are fully double and make great fresh, or dry, cut flowers. The flowers also attract beneficial pollinators and birds in droves from summer through late fall. Echinacea hybrids are well-behaved and tend not to be aggressive self-seeders.
Raspberry Beret Coneflower can be added to cottage gardens and more naturalized plans such as rain gardens or meadow scapes. The plants are tough and drought resistant and have few pests or disease problems. Deer leave the brightly colored blooms alone, and rabbits rarely give them a second look in favor of more tender plants. Growing Raspberry Beret in a container is the perfect way to add color to your deck or patio; this compact beauty makes a great thriller in a pot with ‘Plum Pudding’ Coral Bells and ‘Goldilocks’ Creeping Jenny.
Double Coded™ Raspberry Beret Coneflower Care
Plant Coneflowers in a sunny location with well-draining soil. Soil pH is not an issue, as this plant will tolerate acidic or alkaline soil. Water the plants well until the roots are established, typically through the first growing season. A soaker hose or drip irrigation system will efficiently water plants without wetting the foliage. Coneflowers can be subject to fungal diseases and mildew that quickly spread when the foliage gets wet. Fertilize garden-grown Coneflowers once early in the spring with a granular, balanced formulation to provide season-long nutrition. Container-grown Coneflowers will require feeding once a month from April through September.
Deadheading spent flowers will encourage more blooms and keep the plants neat and clean. Allow flowers later in the summer to remain on the plant to form seeds for non-migrating birds. Coneflowers are herbaceous perennials that will die back entirely for winter dormancy. Remove the dead top growth early in the spring, as the new growth emerges. Allowing the foliage and stems to remain over winter provides added insulation for the growth points and root system.
Double Coded™ Raspberry Beret Coneflower Spacing
Raspberry Beret Coneflower remains compact at 18-20 inches high and 24 inches wide. Space each plant 22 inches apart on the center when planting large numbers or near other perennials. Grow Raspberry Beret in a container at least 12 inches in diameter.
