The LeAnn Cleyera, Ternstroemia gymnanthera ‘Contherann’, is a fast growing evergreen shrub with glossy, maroon leaves emerge in the spring, maturing to a deep green in the summer and turning maroon again in the fall and winter. Fragrant white blooms appear in late spring. Red berries in the fall add to the beauty of this shrub. Can be used to create a formal hedge, but looks its best when pruned more naturally. Works also as a mass planting or for privacy.
LeAnn Cleyera Care
Plant in well-drained slightly acidic soil, watering regularly to establish and weekly thereafter.. Fertilize in spring with a slow-release fertilizer. Prune after flowering to maintain compact shape or to maintain desired height when used as a hedge.
LeAnn Cleyera Spacing
Plant 5 feet apart, center to center when establishing a formal or informal hedge. When creating a shrub border, plant 9 – 10 feet apart, center to center.
