With its beautiful red ruffled foliage, Ruby Tuesday Coral Bells is a great plant for adding some color and impact to a border or container. What’s more, in early summer it develops masses of tiny white flowers on long stems that elegantly sway above the foliage. As a compact Heuchera, ‘Ruby Tuesday’ grows to no more than 16 inches all over. This beauty is adored by bees and other pollinators when in flower.
With its small and mounding habit, Ruby Tuesday Coral Bells is ideal for growing in a group to produce a mass of colorful foliage or as a single specimen amongst other perennials. Being deer and rabbit resistant, this heuchera is suitable for either an urban or rural location. Once established, Ruby Tuesday Coral Bells needs little care and will tend to look after itself. This Coral Bells is also ideal for growing as part of a mixed container.
Ruby Tuesday Coral Bells Care
‘Ruby Tuesday’ grows well in either full sun or partial shade. It prefers to be grown in fertile soil that is free draining, with its crown planted just above soil level. As with all heucheras, Ruby Tuesday Coral Bells need to be frequently watered for the first couple of summers until it has developed a good root system. Coral bells are not hungry feeders and do not usually need to be fertilized unless grown in a container, when a slow-release feed can be applied in the spring.
Ruby Tuesday Coral Bells needs little pruning. However, its faded flower stems can be cut back after blooming and any old foliage removed in early spring. When grown in a planter or container, this plant will require more frequent watering than if grown directly in the soil.
Ruby Tuesday Coral Bells Spacing
Ruby Tuesday Coral Bells remains wonderfully compact and grows to no more than 9-16 inches high and 14-16 inches wide. If grown as part of a group, Ruby Tuesday can be planted at a spacing of 12 to 14 inches apart.
