This plant, also known as Buxus microphylla, is a hardy shrub prized for its dense green foliage and low maintenance requirements. The Winterstar™ Boxwood is an evergreen that can comfortably live as a perennial in USDA growing zones 5 through 9.

This versatile shrub can be used in formal or natural hedges, small gardens, or borders, and more. It is a dwarf plant and reaches 4 feet tall when mature, so it is easy to maintain if you want a more manicured look. This plant is heat- and drought-tolerant, as well as disease-tolerant, making it an excellent plant for challenging spaces or less involved gardeners. The Winterstar™ Boxwood is also deer-resistant, so expect to see the lush foliage all year long.

Winterstar™ Boxwood Plant Care

This plant thrives with full sun, although part shade is a better option in areas with intense sun. Use well-draining soil that is neutral to slightly alkaline and in the range of 6.5 – 7.5 pH. Let the soil dry out before watering, and remember that newly planted shrubs or plants that receive significant sunlight may need water more often. Fertilize the plant in the spring with balanced slow-release food.

The Winterstar™ Boxwood does not require much pruning, and this adaptable plant can handle an involved cut to create a very stylized look or a light trim to create a clean appearance.

A mature Boxwood will be 4 feet wide and tall. Plant Boxwoods 2 to 3 feet apart to create a seamless hedge, otherwise space the plants further apart to create a more natural look
